Kayo is a Red Kangaroo with boxing gloves. I know it's stereotypical, but I like Kangaroos. He was originally made to be Diny's rival.
He has nothing to do with that "Kao the Kangaroo" game! Their names sound exactly the same, but they're spelled differently.

No, Kayo is said "Kei-yo", and Kao is phonetically the same as "cow".
